Changes to Honours programs in 2013
The Bologna Model
Macquarie University will adopt a new postgraduate degree structure from 2013. The new ‘Bologna model’ will involve changes to the existing Honours degree structures.
The typical structure has:
- a three-year Bachelor degree, followed by
- a two-year Masters and
- a three-year PhD.
The model is sometimes referred to as 3+2+3
The Bologna model was created to ensure greater mobility between European countries for further study or employment, as well as from Europe to North America, which has the same structure with a five-year MA/PhD program. 47 countries participate in the Bologna Process. Macquarie University will be the first Australian University to fully align with European, North Americans and Asian qualifications.
