Overview

This diploma provides a pathway for graduates of primary school education to qualify as an early childhood teacher and work in prior to school settings. It builds on your knowledge of curriculum and pedagogy as a primary school teacher to address issues specific to children aged birth to five years.

Key features

  • Offers flexible study options: most units are offered on-campus and by distance, however, you will generally be required to attend
    one or two compulsory on-campus sessions per unit
  • Includes two professional experience units to provide teaching experiences with children birth to five years
  • Gives you opportunities to participate in various programs at the Mia Mia Child and Family Study Centre

Suitable if you are a primary trained teacher who wants to qualify to teach in early childhood.

Entry requirements

  • A recognised primary education teaching qualification. You will be required to submit an original official academic transcript or a certified copy with your application.

English language requirements

All applicants for undergraduate or postgraduate coursework studies at Macquarie University are required to provide evidence of proficiency in English.

You may satisfy the English language requirements if you have completed:

  • senior secondary studies equivalent to the NSW HSC
  • one year of Australian or comparable tertiary study in a country of qualification

It is possible to complete this degree in 1 year full-time if you complete one of your units during the session 3 (summer school) offering.
